INTRODUCTION: Can a summer residential program, help with IELTS preparation?

The answer is yes! Glacier, as a professional organization focusing on summer school, junior study abroad and au pair programs, has launched a summer residential program that not only immerses students in British culture, but also improves IELTS core competencies - from academic writing to oral expression, from test taking skills to real-life language application - to build a solid foundation for your university application. This will help you to build a solid foundation for your university application.

I. Gerlach IELTS Preparation Summer Course: For which students?

If you meet the following criteria, this course would be ideal for you:

- Age and level: 15-17 years old, with upper intermediate level of English (CEFR B2);

- Well-targeted: plan to apply to an English-taught university and need to improve academic English skills (essay writing, reading/listening skills);

- Challenging yourself: looking to break through your English bottleneck on a summer program in Winchester, or return to Courtesy to explore a more specialized learning experience;

- Diverse needs: want to meet international partners and experience British culture while preparing for IELTS.

Second, the core advantages of the course: not only preparation for the examination, more important ability to leap forward

The Summer Residential Program at Gerlach combines IELTS preparation with real-life language scenarios to make learning efficient and fun:

  1. Accurately aligned with IELTS scoring standards: dismantle the writing/speaking scoring dimensions (task completion, coherence, vocabulary grammar, etc.), and target to improve the logic and expression of academic essays;
  2. Mock exams + personalized feedback: weekly voluntary mock exams (restore the real exam environment), and issue a detailed performance analysis to help you quickly locate the weak items;
  3. Native Speaker Interaction to Strengthen Speaking: Study with a native British teenager (Courtesy of Courtesy's exclusive student hosts) to improve pronunciation and fluency through daily conversations and role-plays;
  4. Supplementary skills for minor courses: optional debate, IELTS speaking/listening special training, all-round strengthening of test-taking and application skills;
  5. Intelligent tools empower learning: Drawing on the language teaching experience of the Gerlach Au Pair Program, students are guided to make rational use of electronic devices (e.g., English apps, voice assistants), turning technology into a learning tool.

III. Examination arrangements: a worry-free one-stop service

If you are at least 16 years old, you can register for the IELTS test that accompanies the course:

- Exam date: July 17/July 31, 2026 (IELTS London);

- Fees and Services: For an additional fee of approximately £280 (including exam fee + return transportation), Courtesy staff accompany you throughout the exam and provide exclusive support on the day of the exam;

- Examiner's note: Places are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, so early enquiries are recommended to lock in.

 IV. How to confirm your English level?

If you are unsure of your English level (CEFR standard), Collegiate offers a free language diagnostic service:

- Contact the Court Leahy team to complete a brief online diagnosis (including 1-on-1 communication with an academic manager);

- Based on the diagnostic results, we recommend the most suitable courses and examination programs to avoid blind learning.

V. Even if you don't take the exam, the course is still worth choosing

If you are not planning to take IELTS for the time being, you can still participate in the IELTS Preparation Major/Minor program:

- Acquire the academic English skills necessary for college (e.g., critical reading, academic writing logic);

- Collaborate with international partners to improve intercultural communication skills;

- Build a solid foundation for future IELTS preparation or English language learning.
